ENTRY FEES (Once again, no changes)
$25 per entry ($15 for SILA members and students entering category 8). Entry fee in full must accompany all submissions. Entry fees are not refundable.
WEB SITE FEES (covers 2 years on-line and updates - and, again, no increase)
$45 per accepted entry ($25 for SILA members and students exhibiting their own artwork in category 8). The Web site fee is required for inclusion on the Web site. Each accepted entry will be reproduced in full color on the Illustration West 44 Web site.

Be ready to function in the 21st century! Be sure you’re on the Society of Illustrators of Los Angeles’ Illustration West 44 Web site. This Web site will include all work accepted into the largest juried illustration competition west of New York.
In the past we were able to make our annual available to hundreds of advertising agencies. NOW – for the a substantial savings – literally thousands of people around the would will be able to have access to you and your work.
Besides being available to more creative people than ever, your contact information can be updated as needed, unlike a printed annual. All you’ll have to do is let SILA know when you have a new address, phone number, representative, web page or E-mail.
So, be sure to send the best 35mm slide or color printout you can for the judging process!
ELIGIBILITY
Except for the Visual Development category, any illustration created in or published between June 1st 2004 and June 1st 2005. The work in Visual Development category can date as far back as 2002. Entries from around the world are welcome.

PROCEDURE
Each original illustration is a separate entry. Do not submit campaigns or complete books as one entry. Submit one mounted non-glass 35mm slide or printed copy (tearsheet, print out from your computer, etc.) per entry. For 35mm slide entries, write the artist’s name on each slide. Please attach an entry form or a photocopy to each entry. Send one check or money order for the total entry fees, payable to SILA. You can also pay via PayPal. The email address to use is sila1@aol.com. Create your own short description (e.g. “Girl w/ hat") for each entry and enter in the area provided on the entry form. You must be able to determine from the from the description given on the entry form which entry was accepted.
CATEGORIES
1. Advertising (see last years’ acceped entries.)
Commissioned and published work used for consumer/trade print ads, fashion, point of-purchase, product, packaging, outdoor, Web sites and CD-ROMS.
2. Entertainment (see last years’ accepted entries.)
Commissioned and published work for promotion or packaging of entertainment events, products and organizations, including: music, motion picture, DVD/video, television, computer games, live entertainment.
3. Editorial (see last years’ accepted entries.)
Commissioned and published work for newspaper, magazine, courtroom sketches including spots, and humorous works.
4. Book (see last years’ accepted entries.)
Commissioned and published work for fiction/non-fiction, hard & soft cover books. Includes children’s, juvenile, adult, cookbooks, comic books, and graphic novels.
5. Institutional (see last years’ accepted entries.)
Commissioned and published work for annual reports, corporate projects, capability projects, in-house publications, illustrated company logos, calendars, menus, calligraphy, non self-promotional greeting cards, philatelic, and collectibles.
6. Childrens’ Market (see last years’ accepted entries)
Commissioned and published work used for the childrens’ market.
7. Unpublished & Self-Promotional (see last years’ accepted entries)
Any self-promotional work, whether commissioned or not commissioned. Sourcebook ads, mailers, gallery work, portfolio pieces, experimental, fine art. Includes all Artist’s Rep or Gallery commissioned work.
8. Student (see last years’ scholarshiop winners and accepted entries.)
Work created for classroom projects only. Must include photocopy of student ID with entry.
9. Gallery, a NEW category!
Any work produced for the purpose of showing at a gallery or museum.
10. Visual Development, a NEW category!
Commissioned work for a production of a motion picture, animation, video games, and television. Examples: character designs, layout, visual development, back ground paintings, and story boards.
Fill out entry form completely. Enclose a #10 SASE with your entry or entries to be notified of acceptance. SILA reserves the right to verify information and/or reassign an entry into the correct category. Slides and tearsheets will not be returned, and will become the property of SILA. Their submission acknowledges the right to SILA by the artist to use them for exhibition, education, publication or promotion of Illustration West 44 and SILA. Judges’ decisions are final.
ACCEPTANCE
All entrants will be notified.
AWARDS
Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals in each category. Joseph Morgan Henninger Award (Best of Show) and the Patrick Nagel Award (For Excellence) will also be given. Work entered in the student and self-promotional categories will not be eligible for the Henninger or Nagel Awards. All accepted entries will receive Certificates of Merit. Award-winning artwork must be available for use on the Web site.
SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS
SILA will award the $1000 Phillip Hays “I love it. I think it’s terrific.” Scholarship to the Student Gold Medal winner. The Student Silver Medal winner will receive the $750 Elin Waite and Dick Oden Scholarship and the Student Bronze Medal winner will receive the Bill Tara $500 Scholarship.
And we have two new awards to give this year: The Workbook Award for the Unpublished/Self-promotional Category and the Art Works Award for the Gallery Category.
